It can be difficult to let go of items that once were your wardrobe staples. Items you haven’t worn in months suddenly have an emotional pull as if you can hear each item begging you to not give it away. If you have ever complained that you have nothing to wear, or you wrestle with your wardrobe to find space because your closet is bulging at the seams, then it’s time! It is time to take a deep dive into organizing your closet. This New Year, I challenge you to make one of your resolutions having a clean closet filled with clothes you love.
Cleaning your closet may seem overwhelming, but can actually be quite cathartic. As you pore over each piece, simply ask yourself the following five questions:
If you answered no to any of the above, then it’s time to let it go. You can sell, donate or trash the items you have decided to part with. If there are items you are unsure about, put them in a maybe bag and see if over the next few weeks you miss any of the items.
Your overflowing closet will thank you, your future more stylish self will thank you, and if all else fails, focus on the silver lining that you will soon have more space for new clothes!
